Fourth: Along with the proclamation of His law, God in His justice also announced the penalty for its violation.

Romans 2:12: For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

As we read that verse we must realize that it speaks of us. Have we obeyed all of the light that God has given us? We know that the answer is no.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 3:10-12: As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

A single violation of a single law, even in one*s thoughts, makes one deserving of the penalty.

Galatians 3:10: For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

James 2:10: For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

All are worthy of God*s penalty. He will not give anyone a pass. So God in His justice proclaims His law to man through our conscience and through His written word, and also tells us of the penalty for violating it. His mercy will not overshadow His justice.

Fifth: There is nothing we can do in and of ourselves that would cause God to set aside the execution of the penalty unless some other means was found to satisfy the justice of God.

He is a just God. He will not, He cannot forgive sin until someone has paid for that sin. Thankfully our God is a God of mercy and a God of grace. He is a God of longsuffering.

No work of man can satisfy God*s justice. But, the Bible says that the Lord Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sin. He bore your iniquity in His body upon the cross and if you will put your faith in Him you can and will be justified, set free from the penalty of sin.

1 Peter 2:24: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Galatians 2:20-21: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

2 Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Psalms 143:1-2: Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. 2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

God*s justice is still in effect after we are saved. He does not, after salvation, give us the authority to live as we please. Sometimes His justice is immediate and sometimes He is longsuffering. He knows how to deal perfectly with us. The more the saved put aside of their own ways and the more of His ways they accept, the more they please Him.

1 Peter 4:17-18: For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God*s.

God is concerned about the way we live after salvation. Believers should still be in fear of the judgment of God that is short of Hell. While there is no condemnation for them, there is chastisement. God*s chastisement can be so grievous that it can be hard to distinguish from condemnation.

Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Proverbs 13:24: He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Hebrews 12:6-11: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
